It's going around

My whole family spent the weekend terribly sick, so I lost a few days in which I could work on Strike! Even so, I did manage to get some stuff done. Today I'll show you a draft of half of the Adversarial Play stretch goal: Invasion. The other half, about dungeon crawling (and its equivalents in other genres), will have to wait, likely for next week.

Invasion overlays a Team Conflict and a scene framing structure on top of normal play, forming a superstructure that can fairly adjudicate the high-level outcome of the invasion, while the details are worked out through play. The DM can thus focus on playing to make things real and make things interesting in the roleplay while going all-out to try win in the over-arching conflict. Here it is!

Just got one piece of art in this week: turns out Yuri got sick, too. It's going around, I guess. This is another of William's pieces.

Other Worlds

Time for another weekly update! This time you get a good look at Other Worlds. I've been busy filing the serial numbers off some setting elements and adapting them to Strike! If you're a fan of either of the two settings I'm referencing here, then I want your opinion - you can send me feedback easily on the contact page.

Click here to see the preview.

You always get some art here, right? Well today is no exception, and it's a good one. This might just be my favourite of Yuri's class portraits - the Summoner!

Well, another week has gone by, and progress is continuing. I’ve been wrapping up work on Titans and continuing to flesh out the system(s) for adversarial play. I can show you the basic rules for Titans now, simple as they are. I’ve also been putting together some examples of Titans, but I don’t have them all formatted up yet, so I can’t really show them. Obviously, these rules will go in with the monster creation rules, so if you’re not familiar with those then you should read them first. If you’re familiar with the monster rules and still don’t understand part of it, that means I need to write better, so please let me know! Feedback really does help a ton with targeting which parts of the rules need better explanation. Get them here!

I also got an itch and wrote an extra piece for the DM section on villains! This isn’t one of the stretch goals, but I think it’s a cool addition. Of course, the mechanical parts here are optional, just like the other content in the DMing section (e.g. pacing rolls or the disposition table), but even if you don’t care for the mechanics, the directions and descriptions should help to get you thinking about how to play a villain and show the players what the villain is really all about. Check it out here!

As always, there’s more art coming in. This one is for Adversarial Play.

Status Update and Poll Results

Hey, so I've got enough of the survey results in that I can declare the winners for what will be the first mini-expansions. The first class mini-expansion will be the Rogue! The Shieldbearer was close, but the Rogue edged it out. The first genre for a new skin of the adventure is Urban Fantasy - and that vote wasn't particularly close.

The past week, I've finished up a lot more work on Kits, and begun development on Adversarial Play. See all twelve Kits here. The file is updated with new content, edited versions of the previous content, a bit more explanation for what Kits do, and nicer formatting. Please send feedback! I loooove feedback!

If you checked it out last week, you'll notice that the Wizard is now gone. There was a lot of discussion about the Wizard, and about whether it was too strong or too broad or not, but the problem turned out to be something entirely different. The problem was that the Wizard was undermined by simple skill rolls. The Wizard kit was requiring you to spend resources to achieve things that could generally be achieved by rolling your skills without spending points. So it had to go. The psychic had some major problems too, along similar lines, and got a major edit as a result. Will there be a new Wizard? I won't say definitely not, because if the right spirit strikes me it'll happen... but it's not a priority right now, and I'm more concerned with making sure the Kits that are already there are as strong as they can be.

Finally, Kits!

Get the first look at Kits here!

Well, they took longer than I thought, but here we are on Friday and I've got 6 kits "finished". I put finished in quotes because they are, of course, subject to change and certainly will need some editing and might even be expanded later. But these are the ones that I'm ready to put down for now while I work on other things. I'll get the other six up by next week, along with more about using them. Some of them are almost done, while a couple of them are proving stubborn. I want to put them to bed so I can move on to the other stuff that needs writing!

As always, feedback is very welcome.
